The Arlington, Va.-based human resource firm says amongt workers 50 to 64years old, only 44 perceng are confident they will have enough money to live comfortablt five years into retirement. That is down from 63 percent in 2007. The outlooi 15 years into retirement is even with just 18 percent of older workers confident of beinbfinancially comfortable, compared to 34 percenyt in 2007. “Retirement securituy is a huge concern as individualws have seen significant amounts of theire pension and retirementsavings decline,” says Watson Wyatt Senior Retirement Consultant David Speier.
“The financial crisis has been especially damaginh to older workers who are worried about potential job losseas and have experienced highe r stress levels over thepast year.” As retirementg approaches, older workers are scrambling to shore up their savings, with 19 percent increasing their savings rate and 34 percentt considering doing so, the Watson Wyatt WW) survey says.
