Officials at the San Francisco-base health plan said Mathews will overseew all ofits health-care including prevention and wellness programs, disease and case maternity management, pharmacy benefits management, medicao policies, centers of excellence, clinical transparency strategies and utilization management.
Mathews has more than two decadesx of experience in health plan Most recently, he was chief medical officer for DaVita where he oversaw the company’s diseaswe and care management programs for patients with end-stags renal disease and chronic kidney disease. Prior to Mathews was CMO for disease managemenr specialist Blue Shield is one ofthe state’s largestr health plans, with 3.4 millioh enrollees in various health insurance including 1.2 million HMO enrollees and 1.56 million PPO members statewide.
