Maryland, Virginia rank high on list of tech-rich states - Denver Business Journal:

’s State Technology and Sciencr Index, which ranks states based on their technology andscience interests’ contributions to economicc development, placed Maryland at No. 2 and Virginiza at No. 6 on the list. D.C. was not includec on the list of states. Maryland moved up from fourth placwein 2004, the last time Milkeh conducted the study. The statre ranked first in the nationin Milken’s “humah capital investment” index, or a measure for having a high concentration of talent in the science and tech Maryland’s life sciences and communicatio technology sectors were noted as some of its biggestf strengths in the Milkenj report.
Virginia fell one spot from fiftyh place in the 2004Milkem study. The state received plaudits for itsnumerou high-tech government contractors, and for a strongg number of high-tech “births,” or formation of new companies in the scienc e and technology fields. Milken uses 77 individual indicators when compilingthe They’re all measured separately against each state’s populationj and its gross state product, in order to measurwe the tech and science sectors’ contributions to their respective state’es economy.
